Enlightenment Psychiatry was founded on May 5, 2021, by Mackenzie Snortum, PMHNP-BC, with a vision to bring compassionate and innovative mental health care to rural Minnesota.

In the beginning, the clinic was built from the ground up with nothing more than dedication, faith, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. What started with Mackenzie as the sole provider, working from a small home office, soon grew into something larger than she imagined—an opportunity to create a clinic where individuals could receive high-quality, dignified care close to home.

On January 1, 2023, Enlightenment transitioned to a corporation, laying the foundation for sustainable growth while continuing to honor the mission it was founded on: reducing barriers to care and supporting the mental health of underserved communities.

From those early days, Enlightenment Psychiatry has expanded services from Park Rapids, MN, offering both in-person and telehealth appointments to ensure care is accessible to all. Over time, the practice has grown into a collaborative team of psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, and support staff—all united by the same vision that guided its beginning: to walk alongside patients with compassion, clinical expertise, and respect for each individual’s journey.
